LOOK inside and get the PERSPECTIVE- Moldex3D multilayer injection molding for thick-walled plastic optics!
EXPERT-TIPMeanwhile our day-to-day life is hardly imaginable without optical products. These don't only include common components such as eyeglasses, cameras or projectors. The technology now also plays a key role in many other areas of application such as measurement technology or automotive engineering. Optical components require maximum precision in injection molding technology and key factors such as refractive index, geometry control and optical mapping must be taken into account. Thick-walled plastic optics present a particular challenge as cycle times of more than 20 min. can arise during the classical injection molding process. To counteract this effect and thus enable series production, multilayer injection molding for thick-walled lenses has emerged as a solution.
Moldex3D 2023 supports multilayer injection molding and enables the calculation of flow-related and thermally induced residual stresses of the first shot so that the second shot can be optimally considered. Cycle times are reduced, design changes are facilitated and product quality is significantly improved. Additionally, with regard to the results, it is possible to export a combination of isochromatic and isocoline modes so that simulation results can be intuitively assessed.
