Research project FaKuLast

ESPECIALLY FOR OUR USERS

Development of new simulation and analysis tools to create innovative designs for fiber-filled, injection molded components.

The FaKuLast project addresses the key question of how to develop a process for the technical production and simulation-based design of highly resilient, fiber-filled plastics that considers anisotropy and local variations in filling degree. SimpaTec supports the project partners in this endeavor by providing its expertise in injection molding and structural simulations.

FaKuLast is a Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM) cooperation project. Besides SimpaTec, the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Icotek Kunststofftechnik GmbH, and DK Kunststoff-Service GmbH are also involved in the project as partners. The aim of the project is to develop process variations that locally modify the fiber and molecule chains and fiber filling degrees in order to achieve significantly higher load-bearing capacity. The new processes and process modifications to be developed all go well beyond the state of the art and represent fundamental research work. This would open up opportunities for significant material savings (reduced resource consumption, lower component thicknesses and costs) as well as improvements in component properties, which would offer significant economic and environmental advantages.

SimpaTec's role in the project is to support the project partners' experimental studies with simulations. Initially, this involves using Moldex3D to simulate the injection molding process for demonstrator components. Various other structural simulations will also be carried out. The project is ongoing and we look forward to gaining new insights and developing solutions with our partners.
